Game 17: No Nothing – Leafs Visit Flames
The no nothing Flames return to the Dome Tuesday to try and win, something they’ve somehow forgotten how to do. Sure Flames fans are impatient, but when a team can’t even bother to show up for games despite the talent in the lineup, many are bothered by blow-out results. The no nothing Flames are nothing on the powerplay, nothing on offence, nothing on the forecheck, nothing on defense, and average in goal.
What can turn around the problems? For starters actually have two good lines that some continuity would help. So far Craig Conroy and Rene Bourque have been the solutions for top line players. Two players who should be third line checkers are on the top line expected to put up 60 points setting up Iginla. Not going to happen.
Defensive play has deteriorated to the kind of style seen only in the first four games of the season. One can only imagine what the coach is saying in practices, assuming he can do anything to light the fire under the butts of seemingly uninterested players. Quiet fans won’t be helping either, especially if their team shows up like they have recently. In fact, expect loud boos to emanate from the crowd if the junk on the recent road trip transpires at home.
Time will tell if the Flames will put in a solid 60 minute effort to regain an honest two points. Game televised on Sportsnet and on the Radio Fan 960 at 7:30 PM.
