Game 26: Flames on the road again to visit the St. Louis Blues

Welcome to Hockey night in Canada

After 3 jumps, the Flames commenced the month of December with a slump losing 3-1 to the Stars. A disillusioned Sea of Red witnessed their heroes being extinguished by the last team in the Western division. But, an unrealistic performance advocates a disappointment (that words cannot describe) must have hit them rock hard. Surrounded by a tide of blue – feeling blue after hearing the rasping tongue of Sean Avery – feeling blue after losing to the Stars – the Calgary Flames have to yet face the Blues in “Blue territory” for their second game of the month.

A win against the Blues may or may not come that easy either given that the Flames are 14-10-1 with a total of 29 points; the Blues are 10-11-2 with a total of 23 points and have two games in hand. The Blues’ power play and penalty killing units is slightly better than the Flames (23.00: 84.91%), (19.84: 84.21%) respectively. Realistically though, if the Flames’ offensive power is fully awakened, persistence can pay the dividend in the long run. If they can bring back the “killer instinct” and momentum on ice, they can outrun, outshine, outperform, out skate, and outplay their opponents too. In sum, the silent forwards will need to be reawakened from their deep slumber while the defence will have to be rock harder than it was against the Stars and Kiprussoff’s net minding will have to be solid gold. “Flames will have to be at their best in every aspect to earn the two points”.

Still feeling the Blues? Hopefully, the disillusionment ended on Tuesday night and on a positive note; Sean Avery was reprimanded in kind for his momentary madness. Hence, it is anticipated that the Flames will let bygones be bygones in the game which will be televised on Friday, December 5th at 6:00 pm on the Sports network (SNET-W). The Voice of the Flames will be aired on the Fan 960.

The St. Louis Blues were also thwarted 4-0 by the Minnesota Wilds last night. Would that make it a piece of cake for the Flames?
