We all hate stupid refs, turns out so does Jim Playfair. Props to him for his wicked rendition of Hulk Hogan. Terrible, terrible call by the official. Too bad the Flames don’t have the same passion (I wonder if he replaced those $200 sticks?!)
Here’s some more interesting news than lamenting on the colossal collapse the NHL Flames committed yesterday.
Thanks Omaha, thanks Quad Cities, the baby-Flames are relocating back to Canada. The AHL approved the move that will see Abbotsford become the new home of the minor league team.
The city recently finished building a new arena and were eager to land the pro-franchise. This will also be great for Flames attendance since the past three seasons there was hardly a fan in the bowl.

The Quad City Flames will fold after this year due to dismal sales according to Quad City news. This is good news for Abbotsford, BC, who wish to place an AHL franchise in their new building which would give the AHL their most Western team (also costing the Abbotsford ownership some extra dough to supplement traveling costs given all teams are mostly in the East.)

Last season, when the Flames were looking for much needed fourth line scoring (isn’t that always the story) the likes of Mike Smith were kept around, and two point producers in the Quad City AHL affiliate were kept below. Not much has been written on why the Flames never brought up their number one and two point producers in Grant Stevenson and Krys Kolanos. Stevenson was a late camp cut and Kolanos — along with some attitude problems — joined the AHL team 20 games in and put up point a game production numbers.

Ken King announced announced the relocation of the AHL team from Omaha, Nebraska to the Quad Cities (Moline, IL). The move remains subject to AHL Board of Governor approval at a meeting and is also subject to ratification by the Illinois Quad City Civic Center Authority.

Despite finishing first in their division the Omaha Knights could not advance past the first round of the AHL playoffs against the Iowa Stars. The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights have made the playoffs! And to make things even better, they won some nice hardware for finishing atop their division. The Knights will play the Iowa Stars in the West Division Quarterfinal Series beginning Friday, April 20th in Omaha. The Knights finished the 2006-07 season with the John D. Chick Trophy as the West Division Regular Season Champions and the Norman R. “Bud†Poile Trophy as the Western Conference Regular Season Champions
The Knights embark on their first Calder Cup Playoff campaign and finished the regular season with a record of 49-25-5-1, good for 104 points. The win and point totals are franchise records.

Carsen Germyn led the Knights in scoring against the Stars this season with five goals and five assists for ten points in twelve games. Both goalies earned four wins against the Stars this season. Curtis McElhinney was 4-1-0 in five appearances with a 1.20 goals-against average and a .947 save percentage in head-to-head play. Brent Krahn was 4-3-0 in seven appearances with a 2.28 goals-against and a .917 save percentage.
