Today the Flames qualified offers to the following RFA: Ian White, Brett Sutter, Kris Chuko, Matt Pelech, Gord Baldwin, Matt Keetley, J.D. Watt and the G Henrik Karlsson.
They also put Ales Kotalik on waivers. That means, stemming from last year, the Calgary Flames have given up: the chance to sign Cammalleri for just over Jokinen money, Brandon Prust, Matt Lombardi, and a first round pick. In return we’ve received Jokinen, Chris Higgins, and Ales Kotalik.

The Flames will twiddle their thumbs until the latter stages of this year’s entry draft thanks to bleeding away picks for players that no longer exist in the organizations.
but will they really sit idle? All signs point to Sutter pulling the trigger on a deal that will send one or two defencemen elsewhere in return for a bonafide scorer. We’ll see what pans out.

Not NHL hockey, although it’s interesting to see teams without bonafide #1 C make the playoffs (Jokinen for Cammalleri anybody?), but there are a few Flames and Calgary connections still playing.
Firstly, the Worlds are going on in Germany where a record crowd of over 76,000 came out to see Germany beat the USA. Canada has two Flames: Girodano and Bourque; USA has two: Nystrom and Moss; and now Sweden has one: Mikael Backland who just got the call late this week.

The month of January had been terrible for everyone: for you and your loyal fans and it had been difficult to keep pace with the pessimistic comments from some of the rival team’s fans. However, the hardest hit came from the recent blockbuster trades because we lost some of our precious players. It was beyond belief and made every fan in Calgary outrageous. We realize that it must have been harder for some of you who lost your line mates.

That a boy. Vancouver Canuck fans think this is an embarrassment. Dude’s just having fun. Embarrassment is shining green laser at opposing netminders and bitching to the world on TV that you got called for diving when you are worse then French soccer players–that’s embarrassing.

Jason Jaffray’s stint with the Flames lasted two games, now he’s back on his way to the AHL. That means Craig Conroy will likely return to the line up Friday.
In other news. Ex-Flames host prospect Daniel Ryder, was arrested in Newfoundland trying to rob a convenience store. Ryder has had issues in the past and didn’t even make it to camp in years past with a clear frame of mind.
