OK fine, we'll get on the Dion and Elisha fun. The two started dating in May (or perhaps before) and have been seen frolicking in Hawaii.

Hockey Night and Canada Theme Song Goes to CTV

The legendary theme song that started all CBC NHL hockey broadcasts was quickly usurped by competitor CTV today. CBC tried to milk money from the granny composer (or actually the reverse, they probably didn't pay her), and CTV gobbled up the opportunity.

More details here.

Post your thoughts. Anybody going to enter the CBC contest for a new song?

Zack Stortini – NHL’s Worst Lover

Just in time for Valentine's day I thought we'd show you the lighter side of hockey--the lovin. It's time we divulge the worst kept secret in the NW division. Zack Stortini, 'tough guy' for the Edmonton Oilers, is hands down the crappiest lover in the NHL. Need proof? Take a look at the way she fought against Calgary.

NHL Must Suspend Torres?

The Calgary Flames took the second installment of this year's Battle of Alberta (BoA), but for some reason swept under the rug of the victory was the blatant hit to head by Raffi Torres. The refs didn't see the play and called a tripping penalty, but replays clearly show an intentional blow to the head with the intent to injure offered by Torres.

David Moss was skating through the offensive zone when was he blindsided in the head with Torres' shoulder. Moss played one more shift and then left the game. If the NHL is really serious about 'hits to the head' then intentional hits like these need to be punished. Your thoughts on the hit?

Downie and Boulerice Suspensions Too Long

Interesting piece coming out of Philly pertaining to the lengthy suspensions of Downie and Boulerice. I for one agree. Although I think the suspension length is fine, Bertuzzi still got away scott free for his punch which was worse than both Philly hits combined. He missed 20 games where Downie and Boulerice miss 25. That's why Americans think hockey is a joke--it's because it is. No system or standard has ever been created nor ever will be with the current regime.

Ah well, long live the hits to the head.

ESPN Pulls Heidi – Cuts OT Game For Car Racing

Americans Don't Care About Crappy NHL

It was game six, Ottawa v Buffalo, overtime. If you watched the game you knew it was exciting and big, if you didn't, take our word for it, this was a fast paced series and hard hitting game. A win for Ottawa would give them the series win, a loss meant game seven.

ESPN was happy to broadcast the game only if it were in the afternoon; the NHL bows to every request they have. What ESPN does NOT like is long hockey games with triple overtimes. They don't like how 5 hors of programming disappears. Frankly, I don't blame them, new markets aren't going to support 5 hour hockey games. What is pathetic is when you commit to the game and then turn around and pull a 'Heidi'.

US Writer Norman Chad’s Take on NHL Hockey

Norman Chad is a freelance writer from LA writing a quick article on hockey. Why do I care? Well frankly, if this game is going to grow and if Yankee teams keep winning cups, we should listen to what people have to say to make it 'marketable' in the States. If you don't like that idea then we should can 15 teams in the South US, but since that won't happen, let's see what 99% of the population in the States may be thinking about our game.

Keenan Resigns – Martin New GM

Was it Luongo for Bertuzzi or the signing of Belfour? Either or, bad moves on the whole, but why now? Florida announced in a statement Sunday that Mike Keenan has resigned from his front office post and has been replaced by head coach Jacques Martin.

It is not clear what led to the move - made just days before the start of training camp. It may have been a case that it took this long to force Keenan out.

Martin says he doesn't see much need for change to the Panthers' roster.

''I don't see any changes,'' Martin said. ''I think we're excited as an organization about this roster. We feel we've improved our hockey club.'' It will be his first general manager job in the NHL.
