You are the heart of diehard fans who always thrive to see you succeed; whether it is against the Edmonton Oilers or the Chicago Blackhawks. Whether you win some or lose some, our feelings never change.
The month of January had been terrible for everyone: for you and your loyal fans and it had been difficult to keep pace with the pessimistic comments from some of the rival team’s fans. However, the hardest hit came from the recent blockbuster trades because we lost some of our precious players. It was beyond belief and made every fan in Calgary outrageous. We realize that it must have been harder for some of you who lost your line mates.

On behalf of all the Calgary Flames's fans, I take this opportunity to thank Dion Phaneuf for his contributions as a member of the Calgary Flames Defense. You will be missed and remembered for your offensive efforts during the powerplay and we will cheer for your when you are on ice. Wishing you the best in your future endeavours.. Good luck, Dion.
The trade deal certainly came as a shock, but we warmly welcome the new members of the team: Niklas Hagman, Jamal Mayers, Matt Stajan and Ian White. Welcome aboard as you join the Calgary Flames Hockey Club and we wish you success.

That a boy. Vancouver Canuck fans think this is an embarrassment. Dude's just having fun. Embarrassment is shining green laser at opposing netminders and bitching to the world on TV that you got called for diving when you are worse then French soccer players--that's embarrassing.

Jason Jaffray's stint with the Flames lasted two games, now he's back on his way to the AHL. That means Craig Conroy will likely return to the line up Friday.
In other news. Ex-Flames host prospect Daniel Ryder, was arrested in Newfoundland trying to rob a convenience store. Ryder has had issues in the past and didn't even make it to camp in years past with a clear frame of mind.

All 2010 Olympic rosters will be named by 10AM MST and there are a few Flames players in the mix. Of particular interest are Jarome Iginla, and three Calgary defenders: Jay Bouwmeester, Dion Phaneuf, Robyn Regehr. Most talk around the league pits none of the Flames D to make the team, whereas I think Jbow has the best shot.
Of notable interest is Miikka Kiprusoff. He won't get a much needed rest as he's been named the starter for the Finnish national team. The only good thing about his call is the fact the games are in nearby Vancouver thereby limiting travel.

Hawerchuk from Behind The Net Hockey compiled some basic stats from the past decade and listed the top players who turned up. The stats are pretty interesting.
For example, the Top 10 players list with the most games played in the past 10 years includes three Flames. Oli Jokinen is in fact the top Flames with 758 games played (good for second on the list), Langkow is number 8 with 745 games played, and Iginla tenth with 741 games.
The Top 10 players in the goals scored list is lead by none other than Jarome Iginla with 364. Hossa is the second player about 40 goals behind.

A couple of things came out of practice today for the Flames. Firstly, the NHL named Jarome Iginla the NHL player of the week. Let's hope he can continue his tear on the three game road-trip.
One persona who won't be making the trip (or playing in games) is Curtis Glencross who's been suspended for three games after his blindside hit on Chris Drury. I don't mind the suspension although it's tough for Glencross given his bad play as of late. We need suspensions like this so sports fans don't think the NHL is a joke when it comes blatant disregard for hits to the head.

It appears the storybook comeback of Theoren Fleury is over before it even began. The Flames gave the former Flames superstar a tryout, and despite posting respectable pre-season numbers, he didn't quite have what it took to make the team at the age of 41. More details to come.

But particularly by the New York Islanders who cry foul on every level. The team is miffed that he hit Okposo; they also don't like the fact he never dropped the gloves versus a career minor leaguer.
Let's put the record straight. Phaneuf DID drop the gloves but the twirl lasted all of 2 seconds. Okposo did a hockey no no and that was coasting through the neutral zone with his head down.
It didn't help that Dion was hitting from the side, and that OKPOSO looses his balance or was stretching for the puck, and at that moment gets smoked. If he was at normal height he would have taken a shoulder square in the chine. Instead he took an arm to the face.

Excitement is now brewing for Calgary Flames fans as main camp officially opened a few hours ago. Many questions have yet to be answered this year for a Flames squad that looks different and is being coached different. The two huge questions are:
1) Who is going to score goals?
2) Will the defense be as kick-ass as we expect?
Some lesser questions would include which rookies are going to step up, and will Theoren Fleury make the team????.......
