Good thing this one wasn't on TV because you and I would have shut it off at the end the first. Calgary went down 0-3 after 20 minutes of play, the team re-assuring their fans that lackluster playing was going to be the norm. Kiprusoff was his usual average self and penalties were causing trouble (two PP goals by Minnesota). Luckily it wasn't on TV and we didn't have a chance to walk away because one of the most exciting come from behind wins of recent memory took place.

It was fitting that the San Jose Sharks arrived on the day Owen Nolan played his 1000th NHL game considering he spent time captaining the team he played for eight seasons. Both teams watched as Nolan received gift after gift for the achievement, which by no means should be underrated. Unfortunately for the Flames it meant the fans were out of it come puck drop and their start was sluggish.

From the get go the Calgary Flames looked like the stronger club. Playing their second game of a lengthy homestand the Flames start and finished strong. The PP scored 3 times including the opening goal less than 2 minutes into the game.

Coming home for their longest homestand of the year Calgary was looking to start things right and get back into 60 minute hockey and more points. Well things started out poor. Less than 5 minutes in with fans still finding their seat Calgary went down 3v5 and had a goal scored on the PK. The penalty parade wouldn't stop there as another glorious dive caused another 3v5. The make up call came with 1:55 left in the first and then another 30 seconds later. Calgary would get a chance on the 5v3 and Huselius (who sat most of the 1st) was left wide open and scored with 6 seconds left in the first.

A four goal lead blown. Enough said. Calgary played hard for half a game and ended up losing 5-4 in a shootout (complete with 'i suck at shootouts' Kiprusoff in net). Albeit Colorado was lucky to score 3 of their goals (bounces off Flames defenders), a divisional rival still took the extra point in what should have been Calgary's third straight win.

2-3 so far on this road trip, not so bad. A couple of losing streaks in opposing buildings broken, not so bad. A couple of road wins back to back and a team starting to come together, not so bad either. The Calgary Flames played another untelevised affair against Nashville in a building that struggles to fill seats despite a winning team. Calgary hasn't won in the building in the past seven visits. The result tonight was a bit of a surprise, a welcomed one albeit, in a game where away team looked fresh despite coming out of back-to-back games.

The Calgary Flames are still struggling to assert themselves as a mediocre hockey team. Without a win three games into the season there's really nothing to worry about at this point. It's strange to see professional veterans continually make stupid mistakes, take dumb penalties, and coast their way to losses. Without a single rookie in the lineup one should expect a better performace from the team. But, alas, the Flames dropped another game and go into Dallas to face another red hot team. By the time next week rolls around it could be an 0-5 team coming home.

Rivalries were renewed for the first time this season as the Vancouver Canucks visited the Flames for the first of eight meetings this season. The division rivals didn't disappoint providing a spirited contest that included an extra frame to settle the score. Unfortunately for local fans, it wasn't he home team that came out on top.

In a game that featured an almost snail pace performance, the Calgary Flames couldn't muster the offence needed to pull off a victory in their season opener. Things looked tentative early as the team quickly dropped behind 0-2 in the first 8 minutes. Cocky Daniel Briere and his fist pumping actions scored twice, including the game winner, to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 3-2 win.
