Powerplay and Effort Abysmal: Calgary 1 - Chicago 6

Embarrassed Flames Shame Fans Again

You would think that in the very least, making hundreds of thousands of dollars would entail some effort on the ice. The most expensive D line in the NHL failed to throw hits or stop sustained Blackhawk pressure. The forwards from lines 1-4 struggled to figure out how to forecheck, and the powerplay, let's just not talk about the terrible PP.

The Flames, fresh off a poor effort in Columbus Saturday night, had an opportunity to forget the outing and start fresh Sunday evening in Chicago. The first ten minutes of the game saw Calgary, flat footed just like Columbus, get six minutes of powerplay time and barely got off a shot. Chicago got a quick two minute penalty because of their quick feet, and they capitalize. 1-0 Chicago and another night where the Flames would get beat by honest hard work.

McElhinney Starts: Flames 1 - Blue Jackets 3

Uninterested Flames Lose Again

Curtis McElhinney finally got his chance to start. After 14 games the Flames back-up netminder started his second career NHL game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Too bad for him, a LAZY Calgary Flames emerged on the road. Despite an early powerplay Calgary couldn't get their feet moving. Rene Bourque started the misery by giving the puck away in his own zone. A GIFT to Jason Chimera who scored on the Blue Jackets second shot. To add to the misery on the next shift the fourth line caused problems--for the Flames, as Prust went off for holding.

First period woes in the first half from a Flames team that didn't show up to battle. Lackluster effort translated to three straight penalties for CB. Credit to the Flames penalty killers for a flawless showing. No credit to the Flames powerplay which looked scary (for the Calgary D).

Shootout in the OK Corral: Calgary 7 - Nashville 6

This was not a night for the goalies to remember. 13 goals total were scored between both teams. The Calgary Flames sought to snap a two game losing streak at home against a Nashville squad they beat to kick-start their last winning streak. Things looked very good in the first period as the Flames got off to a quick start courtesy of Tuesday's scapegoat Craig Conroy who scored the first short-handed goal for the team. This was later followed by Bourque's third, Conroy again, and Corey Sarich for his first. Four goals in period one and everyone was thinking rout.

Quiet Flames Loose Again: Calgary 2 - Phoenix 4

The Calgary Flames returned home after a brief two game road trip in Southern California. The Flames welcomed the Phoenix Coyotes who they had early success against earlier this season. Looking to resume their winning ways Calgary welcomed the home crowd with an early goal courtesy of Daymond Langkow who snapped home a beauty from the slot. The crowd welcomed the Flames with the odd first period cheers.

Streak Ends: Calgary 2 - Anaheim 3

Calgary rolled into Anaheim on the second of back to back games in California. Seeking to extend their win streak to seven games, the Flames fell short in a building they haven't won in since 2004. Albeit they put together an effort that brought them close to tieing the game late, but the Ducks held off the Flames attack for the victory.

Flames dethrone the Kings with a 3-2 victory in LA

In what was called the most furious, fast and entertaining game on Saturday night, the Flames prevailed to “fix” their opponents and sustain their winning streak to six. The title of the story was Mikka who had been sensational throughout the 60 minutes of play. Albeit the Flames had been impressive initially, unwarranted penalties against Sarich (interference) and Boyd (slashing) opened the shooting gallery for the Kings who out shot the Flames 11-8 in the first period. Nevertheless, it was the visiting team who scored first – Nystrom at the 16:20 marker of the first.

Win Streak Extends: Flames 3 - Bruins 2

Two winning streaks were on the line as the Boston Bruins continued their West Division on a high. A five game win streak on the line, Calgary on a four game streak. Who would reign supreme at the end of the night? Both teams got off to a slow start trying to feel each other out, in a hockey sense. Boston hasn't been in town since 2005, so the Eastern team and the Flames were trying to figure each other out.

Shut out: Calgary 3 - Colorado 0

Two unbeaten streaks for two NW division teams squared off in the Dome tonight. Calgary off a three game unbeaten streak and Colorado on a five game streak, losing last in Calgary. The Flames got off to a flying start missing two open nets shooting wide. However, after the flurry in the first ten minutes the game literally got b-o-r-i-n-g. The fans were eerily quiet (think Phoenix but with 10000 more people) and chances were few and far between. What chances did arise both goalies made the stops--certainly a change from their performance the last time these two teams met.

Wins Continue: Flames 4 - Coyotes 1

It only happens once in a blue moon, tonight all 30 NHL hockey teams were in action and Calgary was included, visiting Arizona to take on the Coyotes. Nobody could find the game on TV so most folks resorted to the Fan 960 for their play by play. We watched the game and probably outnumbered the number of Phoenix fans in attendance.

Calgary came out of the gate early trying to maintain some kind of momentum from their come from behind win against Nashville on Thursday. Todd Bertuzzi opened the scoring three minutes in on the powerplay. Later Brandon Prust (Proost has the Phoneix commentator said) scored his first of the season and as a Flames.

Come From Behind: Calgary 5 - Nashville 3

After a recent win against the Eastern Division Washington Capitals, the Flames were feeling a bit better especially coming off some inconsistent play. What is still unclear though is who plays where. Mike Keenan seems pleased with himself that he can confuse line pairings to ensure zero consistency. Trouble is, he's pleased, the Flames sputter to not only generate offence, but maintain a forecheck.

After the first period Calgary was lucky to emerge unscathed, a couple posts off penalty trouble (as in Calgary had trouble when they has the powerplay); shots on goal after 1 period of play: Calgary 4 - Nashville 14.
