Flames 3 - Kings 6

Yes fans, the score is correct. Calgary lost against one of the worst teams in the NHL. Should you be surprised? Probably not, the team has been playing below average for almost a month now. Is there cause for concern? I'd say so. With a talented club and a coach that's supposed 'iron' why can't the team put together a solid 60 minute effort game in and game out? Tonight the forth line got things rolling for Calgary--by going -2 in two minutes.

Flames 4 - Sharks 3 (OT)

Gosh, you really wanted to blame the refs in this one on the refs, calling seven straight penalties against the Flames, but really you couldn't. A total of eleven shots on goal for the Flames compared to 31 for the Sharks was the tally at the end of two periods. Calgary really didn't show up despite all the talk about their renewed sense of urgency. The playoffs are 23 games away but the Flames were severely outclassed tonight.

Calgary 4 - Edmonton 1

Battle of Alberta Rages On

The second game in a week between provincial rivals went down in Calgary early Saturday evening. The highly anticipated event comes soon after the most recent brush up in Edmonton last week where fists were flying but Edmonton took the upper hand on the score chart. This time around, fresh off a locker room lashing from the GM, Calgary came out with some heart that Edmonton matched early.

Barely two minutes into the game Phaneuf and Moreau picked up from where they left off last game and dropped the gloves in a brief but spirited tussle. That was only the beginning of rough stuff as the good ol fashion Battle of Alberta seems to have returned.

Flames 4 - Coyotes 3 (SO)

Igilna Jovanovski FightThey didn't deserve it. There I said it. Quite frankly, if it wasn't for a last second goal with 7 seconds left in the game Flames fans would be crying for blood. The reality is the team played marginally better than they have in the last couple games and would be facing the ire of fans everywhere if they didn't get lucky.

In the grand scheme of things the Flames are playing like they did in November, but then they started winning, luckily at first, but then the snowball got rolling. You'd think a level of consistency would hit the team given their age, however, that's been one of the hardest things to come by.

Flames 0 - Oilers 5

The Calgary Flames took another step backwards putting together one of their worst performances of the season. This postgame report will have nothing in it about the game since it was terrible to watch. Curtis Joseph let in five goals and the Flames all around played bad. Here are two reasons why the Flames have been losing recently:

Flames 1 - Dallas 2

Having only played two games since the All-Star break, the Calgary Flames were well rested against a Dallas team that played last night in Edmonton. The usual dead crowd did nothing to help along the home-team so it was about 10 minutes before things really got moving. After trading some good scoring chances, the top line managed to pressure Dallas deep. If it wasn't for quality goaltending and timely posts the Flames may have exited the first period with the lead.

Flames 2 - Wild 1

The Flames yelled on to take 2 points in a gritty divisional game and reclaim top spot in the NW division before the all-star break. The top line was silenced for most of the game whereas Stephane Yelle scored his second in a row and helped on the eventual game-winner to give the Flames a 2-1 edge. The see-saw battle saw Calgary dominate most of the zone play and shot clock, however, timely goaltending by Kiprusoff held the team in the battle.
