Flames Anders Eriksson Pick up Defence Ready to Roll?

The Calgary Flames announced Thursday morning the signing of defenceman Anders Eriksson to a two-year contract. The UFA comes as a cheaper version of Zyuzin who played on the team last year. Anders will likely play as the 6-7 D man.

Flames Sign RW Owen Nolan to 1 Year Deal

It appears Sutter finally got his man. Last year Nolan was rumoured to be heading to Calgary but Phoenix won that battle. Nolan became available again this year and Sutter tried again with greater success. The move will provide a strong second line RW for the team, however, questions the teams interest in bringing up some of their young players to fill roles this year.

Flames Sign Cory Sarich to Five Year Deal

The Calgary Flames have made moves to shore up their blueline with the departure of Roman Hamrlik and most likely Brad Stuart as well. Old nemesis from 2004, the former Tampa Bay Lighting D-man Cory Sarich has signed a five-year, $18 million contract with the Flames.

Primeau Signed to 3 Year Deal - Hale to 1 year deal

Not wanting to test free agency, Keith Primeau has signed a three year deal with the Flames that will keep his checking services in town for a while longer. In the new deal, he'll earn $1.4 million a year, a slight increase in pay.

While for a moment it appeared as if the Flames would dump veterans in favour of youth this coming year, it's proving to be the opposite. Sutter will surely leave 2-4 vets unsigned come July 1st, however, there is still a need to keep a certain level of continuity in the dressing room. Plus Primeau brings size and a level of grit to the line up.

Adrian Aucoin to Calgary?

It appears that the Brad Stuart and Roman Hamrlik contract talks have stalled. Although I would not put it past Sutter to bring back one of the two, both will not be back in wake of the reported deal that sees Blackhawks captain Adrian Aucoin come to Calgary in some form of trade. It is unclear at this point who will go in return from the Flames, but one thing is certain, a 4 million price tag comes for Aucoin--damaged goods for the past two years.

David Moss Re-signs for One year

Banking on a break-out year so he can cash out with some--well--cash, David Moss has signed with the Flames for one year. The RW started the season out in the minors after a disappointing training camp. However, despite not being a lucrative goal scorer for any of his career, landed permanent role with the Flames mid-way through the year. His size and ability to score goals from around the crease made the Chuck Kobasew trade possible. Now it's time to see if Moss can become the third line RW capable of scoring 15-20 goals a year.

All around, a solid signing for the Flames that will only cost them US$575,000. Moss will turn 25 later this year and comes from University of Michigan. He was a seventh-round draft pick, 220th overall, in 2001.

Flames Re-sign Brent Krahn, Germyn and Peters

The Calgary Flames have locked goaltender Brent Krahn, former first pick in the 2000 entry draft, to a deal before the July 1st free agency bonanza. Darryl Sutter has also made it clear that the roll of back-up will likely fall to one of the young prospects in the system rather than a savvy old vet. The job is wide open for the best performer come training camp.
