Flames Beat Canucks 4-3

Flames take first place in NW division with quality win.

It was a hard fought battle from puck drop, but the Flames dominated the latest installment of the top NW division teams. Vancouver had moments in the third where they looked dangerous, but for the most part, lucky goals and bounces kept them in.

Vancouver actually lead after 1 period despite being outshot and outplayed. The Sedins struck twice and Calgary struck posts. For the most part, Calgary kept things in Vancouver zone thanks to a number of penalties. Unfortunately they could not capitalize on their chances.

The first period also provided some rough play. Cowan thought it was time to get a beatdown so he dropped the gloves on Godard, but Godard never dropped his. Cowan got a penalty, meanwhile on the same stoppage, Burrows and Ritchie dropped the mits and pounded each other in a spirited bout. But alas, Vancouver still managed to score twice before the period was over.

After trading penalties in the second, Calgary got on the board after Langkow scored on a 5v3 powerplay. They would later tie the game on a pretty play 2v1 break when Iggy faked a shot and passed to Tanguay who snapped his 15th top corner.

The third period was the most exciting with many chances both ways. Ritchie scored his 8th off a nice tip. Huselius later added another goal with a nice shot from the slot. He has no extended his point streak to 12 games.

The Canucks made things interesting in the third by getting a lucky goal with two minutes left. Naslund banked a shot off of Pyatt's chest and it went past Kiprusoff. But that would be as close as they'd get despite a few butt-clenching moments.

Notes: Warrener left the game after one shift, Zyuzin sat, this meant only 5 d-men dressed. Ritchie scored the 3rd Flames goal and also sported a bent nose from an earlier beat down against Burrows. Kiprusoff should be getting a rest very soon.

Conroy 1 - Kings 0 - Flames Win 4-1

It was the first game for Craig Conroy and the new Calgary Flames.

I thought I told Kerry Fraser never to come back after Game 6 of 2004. You think I forget Kerry? No way, if I was at the game I would have booed you every time you touched the puck. Of course Kerry and the new helmet didn't disappoint. 8 minutes in Godard was called on another weak call (WTF is wrong the refs against Calgary?). Luckily, it's LA, and nothing happened.

Aside from the one powerplay, Calgary dominated the rest of the play, as we expected against the worst team in the West. (17 shots in the first period.)

Never ever get your hot dog at the beginning of any period just to beat lines. In this game, you would have missed the first two goals. The Flames forecheck continued early, and wouldn't you know it, the usual suspects were behind the Flames first goal. Tanguay, Phaneuf maybe, you know, Conroy scored, the usual.

Wait a minute, Conroy scored? CONROY SCORED! HAHA, Mr. 5 goals all season got his sixth in his first game back as a Flames. The crowd game him a standing-O and it was all smiles all around. Before everyone had a chance to sit down, the Kings took a tripping penalty and it was the usual suspects on the goals.

Dion Phanuef sent a wrister from the point and David Moss appeared to tip it in from in front of the net. The Flames would keep their 2-0 lead throughout the second largely due to some incredible saves by Kipprusoff.

Not sure what Hamrlik was doing at the end of the second. For some reason he was mad for a phantom cross check and ended up taking a bad penalty. The Kings would capitalize making it 2-1. Kiprusoff thought he'd get into it and took a penalty giving LA a lengthly 5v3.

Shots slowly crept up for LA as they caught up to the Flames early 17 shot lead from the first. In fact, you might say that the Flames are getting used to playing 40 minutes games, and loosing them. A number of people were probably wondering if the Flames were going to drop one to a crappy team.

Well worry no more. The 3rd line was getting a worthy shift in when the new daddy Yelle scored his 4th of the year. This put Calgary up 3-1. By the way, Calgary scored right after, the new 'top line' with Conroy in the C SCORES AGAIN! That's right, Conroy scored twice against his old team!

That would be it for the Flames, but wow, what a game by Conroy. Somebody stepped it up, and wouldn't you know it, it was the first start of the game, Craig Conroy! The guy almost got a hat-trick with 3 minutes left.

Notes: Langkow left the game in the 3rd with a knee injury. Looked Jarome Iginla like, hope he's alright. I'd hate to see him fall off the map with Conroy in town.

The Flames would go on the powerplay 5 minutes in but nothing doing. The PP was labouring to get going, and this was against LA folks.

Conroy Back in Calgary - Sutter bites Bullet

http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=194096&hubname=

Craig Conroy is back, obviously to bolster our centermen. This is an interesting move as Langkow has been producing well on the 1st line, Lombardi is flash on the second, and Yelle on the third. What does this mean for the team? Perhaps Sutter knows he can't sign speedy Lombo and Huselius in two years time and will trade one soon?

Before the season ended in 2004 Conroy said he wanted to stay, keep the kids in Calgary and hang out with Gelinas on the same street. However, Sutter didin't want to pay the guy an extra few hundred thousand so off to LA he went. Conroy posted great numbers his first season there, but since has tapered off in the offence.

No word on what draft picks will be sent LA's way, but one thing is for sure, Conroy will play tomorrow against his old team :P Nice to see him back, he's a classy guy, but where will he fit? Yelle to 4th line with Frisen and Ritchie? Conroy C on the third line with Amonte and ????

More discussion in the forum.

Flame Crappy Road Woes Continue - Lose 4-3 in Chicago

The Calgary Flames should have never been in this game, but then again, they should have never lost. Kiprusoff was the best player in the game and stole another point for the Flames. The rest of the team could pick up their game considerably.

On this particular night, it was the Flames once again being out-shot and out-worked considerably. Despite this disparity, Tanguay capped a three point night and scored in the third to give the Flames a 3-2 lead with less than 5 minutes remaining.

You'd think that be enough, but no. The referees clearly decided this game with soft calls all night against the Flames. This wasn't the worst officiated game all season, but close to. Multiple infractions against the Flames were uncalled, although blatant, and soft calls on the Flames were. Eventually, Tanguay was called for holding in the OT period and the Blackhawks capped a last minute tie and eventual win.

"I thought it was a pretty average call," Tanguay said. "But, oh well, I guess it's part of the game. "It was disappointing when you have the lead 3-2. Especially with 3 minutes left, you have to find a way to put the game away."

Added Playfair: "We were playing a desperate hockey team that's trying to scratch out points. I think we found our own way to get a point." Glad to hear Playfair sees the positives and didn't blow his top to get fined. He could have easily blamed the refs but didin't.

Notes: Flames D Robyn Regehr missed his second game with the flu. ... Calgary RW Chuck Kobasew also didn't skate. He played in the Flames' previous contest in Minnesota on Friday, but had missed the previous eight games with a concussion. ... Flames players still out with long-term injuries include RW Jarome Iginla (missed 10th game with a knee sprain) and LW Darren McCarty (missed 15th game with a hip injury).

Iginla and Kiprusoff MySpace Pages Fakes?

Miikka's Myspace Page.

Iginla's Myspace page.

You'd think that making millions would entail hiring a designer (and a online marketer liek me) to handle things. Or maybe these are FAKES. Just tossing it out there, because many people think they're the real deal. Can someone put this one to rest officially please? And if you can't, then Miikka and Jarome, hire me to promote those web sites, cause man they ugly.

BOA Part 4 - Flames Pull Win 4-0

You wouldn’t have thought the Flames were about to pull off a romp. Considering they were badly outplayed in the first period, not registering a shot until the 10 minute mark. Yes, the road woes continue since it’s impossible for this team to come out of the gate ready to go. Credit somebody, but Godard never lined up against Stortini until the third period, and then, it was too late for anybody to get anybody going. (Make sense? No, Ok, read on though.)

Although being outshot 32 to 23, the Flames were the first to hit the scoreboard, and in fact, they actually managed to pick up on one aspect they’ve been doing well lately–playing sound defence. You would think that playing two games in two nights would slow things down, and it did, but the defensive game was still solid.

Warrener did not play, out with an undisclosed injury, but all in all, the Flames and Miikka pulled off the shut out. Matthew Lombardi got things rolling with 5 minutes left in the 1st displaying some nice patience on the powerplay.

The Flames would answer with two more second period goals, both even strength, displaying their prominence 5v5. Boyd got his second off a lucky bounce, and Tanguay got his 13th off a very nice feed from Huselius. The only bad thing with Huselius and Lombardi playing really well is the fact we’ll need to pay them even more come contract renewal. (Add them to the Phaneuf, Kipper, Regehr list.)

For some reason the Oilers thought they’d get things going muscle wise with 10 minute left to play in the game. A bit late to pull off some momentum swings IMO. When you have Godard on your team you feel a bit taller. I guess Richer doesn’t need to feel tall as he answered a low hit against Yelle with some fists.

Recently called up Stortini for the Oilers was supposed to give muscle to the line up, and although looked like he could skate, managed to rack up 10 minutes worth of penalties for no good reason. He also thought it was wise to challenge Phanuef to a fight off the face off just before rather than fight Godard in an earlier shift. In fact, it appears nobody wanted to fight Godard all night. Smith made it look like he wanted to go early in the first, but he was just trying to draw a penalty. Good on Godard for keeping the gloves on.

A nice win for the Flames in this four point game. They take lead in the NW division and add some more room between themselves and Edmonton. Of course, the rest of the division keeps on winning. Next up, Calgary v Minnesota after the all-star break, that means possible Godard v Booggard again. Look for Jarom to return in 1.5 weeks :P

What Happened to YAHOO! After Goals?

So I was at the Anaheim game Jan 19th, 2007 and watched a great game. Fights, goals, loud fans, a win. All great. I even got to check out the new scoreboard and man it's pretty. Lots of fire and the TV screen is amazing!

But get this, the instant the Flames scored the first goal I standing waving my flag ready to engage in a timeless classic that labels and makes the 'Dome--well--the 'Dome! I'm talking about our gun totting cracker of a cowboy with the Lanny Mac moustache and cowboy hat firing off into the air screaming--together now-- YAAAAAA HOOOO!

But alas, I was standing waving my flag, yelling, "Where's my Yahoo?!" Of course, I looked like a nut yelling this, but the fact is, with a nice screen, why can't you play my favorite goal celebration? Did people complain that it's to cowboy? Is the new screen to cool for the old graphic? Somebody tell me I'm not the only one who noticed the absence. Surely, this after goal celebration has been around since day 1? or for at least as long as I can remember.

So yea, join my pretend petition to bring back our YAHOOOOOOO!
