So I guess Darryl Sutter was kidding when he basically said that the overall team toughness of the Flames made the need for a bench rider with fists obsolete. Turns out that wasn’t entirely true. Revealed first at the NHL.com web site and then by the Flames, Calgary has signed Andre Roy to a one-year one-way deal worth about league minimum.
Roy will be able to sing up to most of the heavyweights in the West Division less maybe Boogaard. He also adds a slightly higher scoring punch to the Flames. With Roy the line ups look a bit different with only the for sure possibility of Smith and Yelle out.
Some local coverage about the move:
Flames should be able to roll 4 good scoring lines.
Looking good!
