The Quad City Flames will fold after this year due to dismal sales according to Quad City news. This is good news for Abbotsford, BC, who wish to place an AHL franchise in their new building which would give the AHL their most Western team (also costing the Abbotsford ownership some extra dough to supplement traveling costs given all teams are mostly in the East.)
According to media sources, Flames president Ken King is on the verge of signing a new affiliation agreement with a group of investors in Abbotsford, B.C.
The move to Abbotsford and the closure of AHL Quad City (who have two years left on their lease) requires approval the American Hockey League board of governors, and there could be resistance from teams opposed to the travel.
