All 2010 Olympic rosters will be named by 10AM MST and there are a few Flames players in the mix. Of particular interest are Jarome Iginla, and three Calgary defenders: Jay Bouwmeester, Dion Phaneuf, Robyn Regehr. Most talk around the league pits none of the Flames D to make the team, whereas I think Jbow has the best shot.
Of notable interest is Miikka Kiprusoff. He won’t get a much needed rest as he’s been named the starter for the Finnish national team. The only good thing about his call is the fact the games are in nearby Vancouver thereby limiting travel.
No Flames on D after announcement.
Another Flame player named to the Finnish team is Olli Jokinen, no surprise there. Perhaps a chance for him to find his scoring touch.
Perhaps the most stunning revelation from Hockey Canada was the omission of all THREE Calgary Flames d-men. That means no Bouwmeester and instead unproven Drew Doughty gets in the mix. I can’t really say I’m that surprised since all three have had, at best, average seasons thus far. It also bodes well for the Flames that the three will get time off.
Jarome Iginla is in the mix, but not as captain. He will be on of the three assistants behind Rob Neidermeyer.

Overall, the pick is fair, although I would have liked more of Flames players in Team Canada.
The one I think that stands out for me anyways is Seabrook. I think both Phaneuf and Bouwmeester bring more to the table but I’m just a fan. Guess Yzerman and company know best.
well, i think it would have been in canad’s best interest to atleast have bousmeester and maybe phaneuf in there.
Also, regher should have been in there, considering it is probably his last year he will be able to play in the Olypics, but he isn’t….
Honestly i think Finland has a better chance at Gold this year, because they have Kiprusoff and Jokinen…. and i am a total Canada fan, but they are looking like a better team this year
Another thing that I noticed was the fact that besides Luongo and Iggy, the rest of the Canadians come off teams south of the border. I might be sounding paranoid but I doubt it.
No you are far from being paranoid, Flaming Moe. I thought Regehr, Phaneuf and Bouwmeester should have been in, but, the final decisions are made by somebody who thought differently. Alternatively, I can understand that there were three Flames players selected for the Olympic team, but Team Canada is a different story. It will take another four years before players get opportunities to play for the Olympic team. I often wonder why the Flames are always blacklisted and underrated?
