Didn’t catch this one but from the highlights the Flames were outplayed and were very messy on defense. Couple that with quiet offence and you get the impression that this team won’t be winning huge games unless they get their D plan consistent and the scoring starts doing the same. Iginla silent, top line silent, 3-4 lines haven’t produced in two months, and too many broken coverages in the defensive zone.
A chance to right the ship Friday against Columbus who are having struggles of their own.
I am quite worried about the game against Vancouver on Saturday. Calgary seems to have troubles playing on the second night of a back to back. Also the lack of scoring is really starting to trouble me, I can handle it when when we are winning 2-1 but when we get blown away by a team, and only score one goal it really does worry me. Not sure what it is going to take to have this team playing a little more consistent.
Compliments to Olli Jokinen for scoring the lone Flame goal.
After a fan’s anticipation for a close game or perhaps a one-goal differential, it had been a terrible loss to savour. Additionally, it had been unfortunate that the visiting team gave up a power play goal to plummet their penalty killing statistics to 84.02% though, this was only their 3rd power play goal that they had allowed in 34 attempts, which is a plus. Simultaneously, what is most disconcerting is that their power play statistics remain latent at 17.57% and a lot of work will be required (in these areas) for the rest of the games, particularly against the tougher teams.
On an optimistic closing note, it was good to hear that the Fan 960 had acknowledged Eric Nystrom as the hardest working Flame. In fact, according to Mike Rogers, the Flames had played well overall, but just missed connecting the net. Though discouraging for the fans, all is not lost – Slow and steady wins the race, folks.
