The off and on-again Calgary Flames returned to their winning ways at home defeating the rebuilding LA Kings–one of the youngest teams in the NHL. The City was abuzz from the afternoon celebrations with the Calgary Stampeders at Olympic Plaza. Although only 12000 showed for the party, 19000 packed into the ‘Dome, of course, you wouldn’t know it given the library quiet crowd.

Luckily the Flames didnt care and produced a high-scoring outing for a team that has only playted outside of California five times this season.

Calgary opened the scoring ten minutes into the game when Mike Cammalleri scored his sixth. Calgary didn’t so much establish their forecheck as per the last three games, but opened up the game with their speed. Rene Bourque, right after a Conroy breakaway miss, streaked down late in the first and scored his fifth.

In the second two more Calgary goals by Iginla on the powerplay thanks to a 5v3 and later Curtis Glencross with his third goal in two games. Calgary up by four. LA lost composure at the end of the second racking up 21 penalty minutes between two players.

To start the third, somehow, Calgary on the powerplay with zero urgency or care, let the Kings break down three on one. How this is possible on the powerplay we don’t know but certainly a pathetic display to taint the rest of the night. David Moss on the next shift added some urgency and quickly put the Flames back up four.

Not to be out done, Rene Bourque scored his second of the game soon after.

Notes: Craig Conroy and Curtis Glencross recorded 3 points each. Next up home and home with Vancouver who are five points ahead of the FLames, a crucial series for Calgary.
