With trade deadline approaching some teams are looking to improve while others are looking to sell. What has the rumor mill be churning for the Flames? Well the biggest blockbuster was a Regehr and Lombardi straight up for Jason Spezza. Although I agree the Flames sorrily need a number on C for Iginla, that price would be too high for a guy who can’t compete every night.
The most likely move for the Flames will be for a backup goalie.
March 4th, 2009 Updates:
- Jordan Leopold to Calgary for Nycholat who was picked off waivers yesterday, a prospect, and a pick.
- A deal is done that sends Oli Jokinen to the Flames for Lombardi, Prust, have always been rumored to be in the hunt for the centerman.
- Somebody is leaving the Flames (Rhett Warrner!) but probably not. Adrian Aucoin may be on the move which is poor because he’s been solid for Calgary. Update: the defensive corps only added Leopold, no subtractions.
Latest legitimate rumours = NONE.
Latest far fetched rumours:
Bouwmeester for Phaneuf (yes some fans would be thrilled to get rid of the defensive liability but this is a dumb idea).
Can’t say Calgary has much to offer other than Lombardi.
We can suggest that Calgary may be in the running for one of the many backup goalies out in the market or in the minors. Gerber comes to mind.
Leave Matts sundin in Toronto. One way player with no desire to be on a winning team. Floater.
Leave Sundin in Toronto. He is a loser with a loser. One way Player with no desire to win.
What we really need is more hard working players to help set up guys like Tanguay and Iggy. We need more of our guys to put in effort like juicy does and we’ll see ourselves in the race for the cup again this year.
The First trade.
