The Calgary Flames approach the 2014 Entry Draft with the highest pick they’ve ever had as an organization. Who they take is largely up to what the teams ahead of them do. The Flames will get a quality player, but that franchise player? Well there’s probably only one and although the Flames will be hard pressed to pick him up unless they trade up, quality still exists at four.

Flames’ selections for this weekend’s National Hockey League draft in Philadelphia:

Round 1: 4th
Round 2: 34th
Round 2: 54th — from Colorado for G Reto Berra
Round 3: 64th
Round 3: 83rd — from Pittsburgh for RW Lee Stempniak
Round 6: 165th — from Anaheim for RW Tim Jackman
Round 7: 184th

Picks traded away:
Round 4: 94th — to Toronto for C Joe Colborne
Round 5: 124th — to St. Louis for D Kris Russell
Round 6: 154th — to Dallas for LW Lane MacDermid
