With this THIRD shut-out of the season, Chad Johnson back stopped the Flames to a convincing home victory against the refresh Toronto Maple Leafs. Coming off their longest road-swing of the season, the Flames took the lead early scoring twice in the first minute of the opening period. From then on it was more Calgary as the team comfortably road the lead to a victory.
A couple of insight on tonight’s game.
- The pre-game hype was all around Johnny Gaudreau skating in practice with the team, and Brian Burke ripping the media squashing Dougie Hamilton trade rumours.
- The Flames looked solid throughout in 5v5, but Toronto gained momentum on special teams. Their powerplay looked especially good, I like every time the Flames gain man advantage. One of the key differences has to do with movement. On the flames PowerPlay most of the players are standing still. When you watch the Leaf’s, their wide winger starts off HIGH and then moves down towards the hashmark. The move was consistently effective and something the team should employ, but of course being the league’s worst power-play is something this team prides itself, so nothing will change….
- Is Chad Johnson the real deal? Is he the bonafide #1?
Minnesota is already in town for Friday’s game. Calgary will look to continue putting up points in their brief 3 game homestand.
Exceptionally played considering that the Flames had just returned from a long road trip…..Sensational net minding. Tribute to all the Flames on ice for making it happen……Go Flames Go!
Great opening minute and they held on.
