Calgary Flames String Together Wins in First Three Games of 2024 Season
Who had the Flames going 0-3 beating two rivals in the process? Not me. Hands up? Nobody? But does it feel good? Hell ya. Will it continue? Hell no. Should we be planning the parade like Edmonton does when they string together two wins? Also no.
Everyone is contributing and there are still more to give. Calgary looks balanced, albeit shaky still on the backend. Over an 82 game season the averages will even out and the Flames lineup will be exposed. But here’s one thing that can’t be denied–the Flames are playing the right way.
Coach Huska enters his second full season as bench boss and has something cooking with the squad. Now, will the Flames once again overperform their lineup but wind up slightly below average? Probably. Would anybody care if they proceeded to lose all mojo and wind up draft 5th? Nobody. Anything below 11th is what fans are hoping for, so they can defer the Montreal pick (for Monahan) to much higher in the draft. This is a rebuild after all, or maybe the shortest rebuild in history if the Flames keep winning for no particular reason other than they’re not as bad as folks thought.
Plus we’re getting some highlight reel goals like this one from Andersson who danced around the entire Oilers lineup.
