No response from Flames after Dach runs Cooley.
A dozen games in and the start to the ’26-’27 Flames’ season is a combo of highest of highs and lowest of lows. Coming off 6 straight losses to start the season, the team somehow turned it around and went on a four game tear beating really good teams before losing to the Oilers.
The main difference? Goaltending. Rather than Dustin Wolf letting in six a game, Devin Cooley has been lights out. Sign the man. Give him his dues. It’s going to be a significant raise from his paltry 1.35 million / season, but the Flames have the room.
The troubling factor is the complete non-response the Flames had after Kirby Dach ran Cooley. Cooley left the game with a knee injury. Wolf let in 3 straight. A team that won’t stick up for their goalie is a team without heart or character. Sad to watch–not that anybody did because random games are no longer available on Sportsnet.
The other factor, the kids are playing. They are getting time to figure it out and are putting up points. That’s all you can ask for in a real build year.
#Teamtank are demanding more losses, and they will come rest assured especially with Cooley’s injury. But in a year where the draft isn’t deep, a top pick who is a Dman, adding to the fact the bottom teams have no guarantee of landing in the top 3, the Flames are doing what they’re supposed to be doing: getting experience to the kids, winning a few games, playing exciting hockey, all just in time for the new generation in the new arena.
Let’s just hope someone steps up to stick up for his teammates because folding the Oilers every chance is not acceptable.
