The Calgary Flames continue their October like play with bad all around hockey. From top to bottom the Flames have little to show but lackluster efforts and poor performances by top names. When Flames hockey is played to a tee by Vancouver, you know something is wrong.
With the win Vancouver now moves from last to first in the division. The Flames continue to fall out of the playoff race and need wins soon or it will be 44 million dollars worth of wasted players. At this point it seems trade rumors begin to swirl.
Alex Tanguay spent much of the second period benched. Why, we’re not sure, because the whole team deserved to be bench. The answer isn’t trades by any means, but clearly players aren’t happy. They aren’t prepared for games and can’t find any life anymore. You’d think it would be the defence who would be slow, but other than Phanuef, their play has been good.
With the top lines healthy we continue to see poor performances. Iginla is completely uninterested in the defensive side of the game. Kiprusoff continues his mediocre play and shows signs of wear lately. Phaneuf caused two goals with mediocre efforts, Tanguay was non-existent and Kobasew can’t play or stay out the box. All of these players had their worst games this season.
The solution in my opinion is a call up/trade for a bigger forward. When you’re biggest forward Huselius (probably the best forward tonight with a pretty goal from behind the goal line), you know there’s a problems. We don’t have power forwards that command respect, just a bunch of small players that can’t score.
Notes: The defencemen are hurting, but no help in sight. A big chance to get 4 points this week with LA and EDM coming to visit. Get out and cheer on the Flames! If they loose both these games that’s it for the season (well not quiet but you know.)
