The Calgary Flames returned to their winning ways by taking their second in a row against a LA team that, in all honesty, they are expected to beat. At this point in the season the team has been consistent in one thing–inconsistency. A strong December was followed by a on-again off-again January. Looking to extend their shoot-out win against Minnesota Wednesday, Calgary came out ready to go in their first of 4 home games.
Langkow Nets HatTrick
Strong forechecking in the first and the ability to score on LA mistakes gave the hometeam and early 2-0 going into the second. Conroy and Langkow scored in the first. The teams traded penalties at chances for the first half of the second, but the flood gates opened with Langkow’s second and Stephane Yelle’s second shorthanded.
Although LA did manage one goal against Kiprusoff you really got the idea the short-handed goal was the nail in the coffin for LA. Kiprusoff by the way may be feeling the heat of Cujo sitting on the bench now. He turned in his second straight stellar performance making key stops on penalty kills.
Daymond Langkow capped his hot night with his third goal early in the third period. Fans had a hard time figuring out Langkow scored since his goal was off a tip. Thankfully the hats rained down (maybe more of a trickle) from the stands after the announcement. What was particularly funny was one fans brand new hat–with tag and all–sitting on the ice in celebration….What a way to spend 25 bucks :P
