The Flames yelled on to take 2 points in a gritty divisional game and reclaim top spot in the NW division before the all-star break. The top line was silenced for most of the game whereas Stephane Yelle scored his second in a row and helped on the eventual game-winner to give the Flames a 2-1 edge. The see-saw battle saw Calgary dominate most of the zone play and shot clock, however, timely goaltending by Kiprusoff held the team in the battle.

Calgary still isn’t hitting on all cylinders, and luckily they look to be one of the healthier teams in the NW division. Of course, that doesn’t mean they can become complacent in their development. There’s still plenty of room for improvement namely on defensive play, consistent goaltending, and more secondary scoring.
