Calgary rolled into Anaheim on the second of back to back games in California. Seeking to extend their win streak to seven games, the Flames fell short in a building they haven’t won in since 2004. Albeit they put together an effort that brought them close to tieing the game late, but the Ducks held off the Flames attack for the victory.
45 seconds in the second period was all it took for Anaheim to take a 3-0 lead. 2 goals in that time span highlighted Calgary’s loss of concentration and put them in a deep hole. Credit the Flames for turning a better effort after the deficit, they resumed their forecheck and created changes. Glencross scored his second of the year and Bertuzzi a nifty rush deke to draw the Flames to within one, however, in the third that’s as close as Calgary came.
Some open questions as the Flames come home. Firstly, why is Iginla playing with a third line center in Conroy and a third line LW in Glencross? The guy has to get started, and although he’ll create chances with anybody, a pilon could get 10 points with Iginla, he needs way better linemates. Also, it’s time to see Roy come back into the lineup, chances are he’ll take Nystrom’s spot. A couple changes are now warranted after the Flames winnin streak came to an end.
Notes: Adam Pardy factored into the lineup with Robyn Regher out. Kiprusoff is the only NHL goalie who has all minutes this year
