Watching the game today on Sportsnet Flames someone came in during the third period and said, “Slow Mo Johnson!” Suggesting the game was slow, in slowmo, and any other slow you want to talk about. Sure there were moments with some big hits, but really, Calgary played a boring, boring, boring road game.
I guess that’s OK since it translated to taking the crowd out and taking two points in OT. Did I mention the Flames play BORING HOCKEY?!
Calgary played the majority of the game on the perimeter shooting 34 shots but few shots from the slot.
On the other end, the Flames can thank their lucky stars Miikka Kiprusoff was his usual self. He made another highlight reel save off the goalline to keep the shutout alive.
The game finally ended in OT when Rene Bourque scored in OT, his first game back since LA and his head injury. Morrison on the assist to lead the Flames with 5 points.
Next up Detroit Thursday for the 2nd game on the three game road trip.
Notes: The TJ Brodie experiment is done, he was sent back AHL Abbostford Heat. But in a surprising move Sutter picked up another minor leaguer defencemen Brendan Mikkelson off waivers from Anaheim. Some suggest this is an indicator Staios may be on the way out.
Wow, it was good to earn the two points and I believe the overall performance was better in terms of offence, defence and goal tending. The shots on goal demonstrated the team’s motivation and from the sounds of the Fan 960, it did not seem like a boring game.
It was awesome to note that Rene managed to run down the Preds last night, courtesy of White and Morrison. Welcome back Bourque!
Notes: It was sad to see TJ Brodie being sent to AHL Abbostford Heat. Hopefully, this will be the final transaction that Sutter will make.
Go Flames Go! Is it Wing Night on Thursday??
