The Calgary Flames announced a trade with Carolina that sent Sutter and White for Babchuk and Kostopoulos. The move saves the Flames some cash, adds a fourth line winger (cause we really need more of those) and puts a big shot on the point for the PP.
Apart from that it’s pretty much a bust. What are your thoughts?
The trade also means the Phaneuf trade now leaves only Stajan and Hagman.
I haven’t watched Carolina much this season but this FlamesNation post sums up how we got pretty much nothing.
How this makes the team better? Maybe an extra few points from the point on the PP? More character in the lineup?
Pretty much pans out to the annual useless veteran/overpriced forward Sutter gets every year. Only this time Kostopoulos has an extra year (like Wayne Primeau only cheaper!)
So this trade is meh. But maybe the ‘shake’ up is what the team needs.
Oh wait, they lost again tonite…..
Notes: TSN’s Bob McKenzie reported that the deal was done before Sutter got into trouble in Phoenix.
I am not sure if the trade will work optimistically for the Flames…. we have been trading players for so long but nothing seems to change with the exception of faces. Ian White was a good player and it is difficult to decipher what is in the coach’s mind.
What we actually need is sixty minutes of hard hitting hockey with speed, perseverence and determination with no slacking in offense or defense. Good offensive players are a must, and undoubtedly we have great players.. Yet, the incomplete passes and interceptions are worrisome. Defence and goal tending seems to be slacking a bit of late.
