If the Flames have any chance to make the playoffs unfortunately the margin for error is ZERO. They failed tonight at home. Without steller goaltending the team sort of shut down. Yea, Some clutch scoring in the second gave them a one goal lead, but they shut down in the third period getting a measly five shots.
Not good enough, and the Flames showed they don’t have enough in the tank to win against a playoff bound team. Something is missing from the game that they need to re-capture for the final 20 games.
David Moss, a beauty by Nik Hagman, and Anton Babchuk scored for the Flames. The top line was yet again absent from the scoresheet.
Calgary had no life in the first period…. actually that’s not true, they came out flying but forgot to play defense and went down 1-0 early. That took the wind out of the sails. Tim Jackman tried to prop the team up with two fights in the game. He got popped in his second bout and never returned. Another Ivanans? Hope not, cause Jackman actually brings some heart.
Maybe the Flames are missing the size and grit needed to win close games. Kostopoulos is the only answer we have, and if he’s all you have when you need grit then your team is in trouble.
Tonight’s game actually would’ve gone the Flames way if it wasnt for a late goal by Clowe (tieing goal and the winner in a shootout.).
OT solved nothing so a SO would be needed.
IN shootouts the coach better think of some better shooters because Jokinen, Tanguay, and Borque are struggling recently….
Notes: Sarich a -2 on the night, Staois with some poor defending on the second goal. Look for Mikkelson to get into the lineup Sunday against St Louis (home and home). Kotalik may get into the lineup with jackman potentially out. The Flames, howeve,r need size and muscle, something they’ve missed this year….something they’ll need on the final push.
Wasn’t pleased with the consequence of the game. Flames should have won against the Sharks and the tieing goal within the final minutes of regulation had been disconcerting. The Flames tempo has returned back to their original status. Not good at all.
