5th place in the NW division where all teams have games in hand, Calgary took two points in another crucial game vs the Nashville Predators who just a month ago were in 4th place–now 11th. But how’s this for wild.
Jarome Iginla scored his 30th goal of the season, his 10th season with 30 goals or more, on a penalty shot no less. (Same ref as last game when two penalty shots were called).
Iginla’s penalty shot goal was his 30th of the season, and tied the game at 2 a piece.
After a slow start where Nashville went up first, Calgary stormed back in the final two frames dominating play.
It was great to see tons of chances from the lieks of Tanguay, Bourque who played a solid game, Glencross’ 22nd goal, and Jokinen.
Kiprusoff with another 30 win season and his 20th start in a row. Somebody give this guy a break, he can’t play 100 games a year! Mind you he is a 6.5 million dollar athlete, but still, he needs a rest soon……
Calgary sits now 4 points ahead of teams with two games in hand. That means they’re picking up points and pulling ahead bit by bit. The margin for error, however, remains slim.
Notes: Phoenix up Wednesday. Moss played on the top line in Morrison’s center position.
The positives of last night’s games?
– Iggy reaching the threshold and scoring on the penalty shot!
– The Calgary Flames scoring on the power play
– The solid performance of each player on ice – be it defence (blocking shots, hits) or offense (scoring, assisting, shooting).
Of noteworthy was the fact that the Flames came back twice from a one goal deficit and sustained the one goal lead. Obviously, the Predators maintained momentum till the last second, but Kiprusoff’s mighty performance refrained them from getting life. However, the best also need a rest….and although it is critical for the Flames to win each game, Karlsson also needs some netminding experience.
Fans certainly like the way the Calgary Flames are performing and hopefully their trend continues…..Go Flames Go!
