Calgary takes the season series against the Dallas for the first time in a long time. It wasn’t easy either. If you shut off the TV after the first period then maybe you would’ve though the game was in the bag. But in a 60 minute hockey game anything goes and for Dallas, they clawed back and sent the game to overtime. Another 3 point game which probably made Western Division rivals cringe.
But then again, it’s not like anybody else is helping the Flames.
LA played Detroit, LA won. Anaheim played NY, the Ducks won too. Chicago V Tampa, that was a 3 point night. St Lou beat Columbus, in OT, another 3 point game.
The wrong teams are winning and the wrong teams are getting loser points (not that I’m complaining since Calgary has a few too.)
It’s do or die from here on in, every game. Calgary can only take care of their business, and tonite it took a shoot-out to capture the full two points.
The goalie battle between Kipper and Lethonen went into extra time with Kiprusoff prevailing. Curtis Glencross potted the shoot-out winner.
Calgary had a 3-0 lead early in the first, which was good considering the teams’ answer to a #1 center righ tnow is DAVID MOSS…… Not really a winning solution.
Dallas chipped away to tie, but the Flames took two points to send them into Phoenix tomorrow night where they play another team fighting to stay on top of the playoff race.
Only thing left to see is whether Kipper will make his 23rd consecutive start.
Glencross glitters once again as he and Tanguay scored in the shoot out to sweep the Stars in four victories. Congratulations are in place for Bourque, Kostopoulos and Babchuk for hitting the target; Cheers to Staios, Jackman, and Babchuk for drawing assists on the play.
On a sad note, it had been disconcerting that the Flames could not maintain their three goal lead; and also gave up a power play goal. Nevertheless, the outcome of last night’s game could have been consequential to bad reffing and the Flames seem to be victimized by frequent misjudgement – and the Stars could have stolen the two points if it hadn’t been for Mikka’s marvellous saves!! Alas, zebras don’t have eyes at the back!!.
Conclusively, the two points were worth it and the Flames will have to persevere for the rest of the games..Be it Mikka or Hendrik…..a collaborative team effort together with a killer instinct will take them where they hope to be…..Good luck and Go Flames Go!!!!
Dear Moderator,
I know this doesn’t have too much to do with the Flames, But I do feel like I have to speak out about the NHL commissionaire’s reply regarding the injury to Hab’s Pacioretty.
This guy is taking down the NHL to the miry pit. Why don’t the owners stand up to him. Or the NHLPA? Hockey is the only team sport that allows its players to be grieviously injured and then say it is a part of the game. Gimme a break.
You are absolutely right, Cindy. NHL needs to stand up for players and injuries to players should not be considered as part of the game. It is close to play off time and this reasoning is just garbage. From a personal perspective, fights and hits to the head should be abolished and ice-hockey should be a disciplined game that must be played professionally.
