I can’t remember a time where the Flames’ fanbase has been this ‘OK’ with constantly losing. The Flames have two wins eleven games into the season effectively putting any playoff chances out of reach before November even begins.

On Tuesday night at Scotiabank Arena, the  Maple Leafs edged out the Calgary Flames 4–3 thanks to terrible defensive play. (What else is new?)

The Flames struck first at just 4:33 of the first period when Morgan Frost fired a shot off the post and in, finishing a rush set up by Jonathan Huberdeau and Nazem Kadri. Kadri had a slow start early in the season but has since come on as of late.

5v5 Calgary controlled most of the play. But they constantly sat in the box over and over again.

Special teams hung on but ultimately atrocious giveaways by vet players including Backlund handed the Leafs a win.

It’s wild to watch a team implode from their bread and butter of hard forecheck and defensive play to whatever it is they’re struggling to produce so far in the 2025-26 season.

Hard work pays off for a few Flames’ though. Frost, Farabee and Honzek each contributed goals — Honzek’s finally getting his first at the NHL level.

Dustin Wolf faced 33 and his GAA continues to plummet.

Next up, another loss coming in Ottawa on Thursday.
