It seems like yesterday when the Flames were on a horrible losing streak. Xmas must have done a number on the team because recently they’ve been on a tear. You wouldn’t really notice it either given the style of play. The team went back to defensive basics and have found success following their gameplan, even if it’s boring at time.
Tonight the Flames were visiting Nashville to face the Predators who almost match the Flames for wins this season. However, when the puck dropped Calgary assumed control sticking, again, to the gameplan.
The scoring opened in the second period when David Moss and the new third line scored, it was Moss’ first goal in 14 games. On the defensive side of things, the Flames once again kept the opponents down to under 30 shots against. Miika Kiprusoff stopped 27 shots and the Flames sent over 30 towards Nashville.
Another Flames who sorrily needs to score more got the eventual GWG. Olli Jokinen scoree his 8th of the season. Daymond Langkow added an empty net goal.
The win puts the Flames in top spot in the Northwest Division moving past the Colorado Avalanche.
Notes: Jason Jaffray up from the minors in for the injured Craig Conroy. Cory Sarich back into the lineup, Johnson dropped out. Next up Minnesota tomorrow in back to back games.
Good win boys! Can’t say I watched much of the game since I was watching the juniors game, but nice to see at least one of my teams winning though tonight, great job Calgary. GO FLAMES GO!!!!
Undoubtedly, it had been a good game, Flaming Moe. It was fun watching the Flames play a defensive style hockey. Compliments to Moss, Jokinen and Langkow for the efficient connections. Great efforts from Boyd, Nystrom, Phaneuf, Dawes, Iginla and I am not sure if it was Glencross who assisted Langkow besides Iginla with the empty netter. However, it was a good overall performance. Unfortunately, the Flames gave up one power play goal, but it had been expected after the back to back penalties called against them.
Congratulations to the two Flames players who earned the two stars… Sportsnet indicated it was Boumeester and Kiprusoff; while the Calgary Flames website mentioned Kiprusoff and Jokinen. Nonetheless, compliments to the entire team for their hard work.
P.S. Get well soon, Conroy.
