Calgary will go into the two week Olympic break with a win, something they’ found only 5 times in the last 17 games. Who would’ve thought that the Flames would be struggling for 8th place. It’s like 2004 all over again….mind you the outcome then was pretty good.

Tonight at home Calgary fed off some new lines and the home crowd to pull out a victory. The bulk of Calgary’s offence came from their captain, who seems to win games hands down, but unfortunately only shows up for every third game….

Hopefully Iginla has regained some of his scoring touch. What the Flames need right now is a hot Iginla to come back from the Olympics and the rest of the team to pick up the scoring (hello second line?)

4th and 3rd line players need to step up, the obvious, so it helps when Nystrom scores. However, one goal every 42 games (when he scored his last) won’t work.

New Flames in the line up were Dawes and Moss. They provided energy and helped assert a consistent forecheck all night.

That meant pulling the short straw tonight was Dustin Boyd who watched from the press box with Brian McGrattan.

Miikka Kiprusoff was his usual self making huge saves keeping the Flames in the game. I’ma ctually kind of worried that Kipper will pull out all the stops and beat Canada.

Notes: Jamie Lundmark was picked off of waivers from Toronto today. Bourque and Conroy still on the mend, Bourque will return after the Olympic break which will likely mean Backlund goes down tomorrow to the AHL.
