I don’t think anybody anywhere thought Calgary would win this game. they made it closer than it really should’ve been, but the Flames just aren’t a good team right now. Since day one consistency has been the issue, and it showed again today. The ‘new’ #1 line of Bourque-Jokinen-Glencross were systematically eliminated by San Jose’s second line. On a brighter note, Jarome Iginla found some reasons to play harder on his own and ended the night on a top line with Tanguay and Stajan.

All in all, the Flames still don’t show up to the rink as a unit ready to give 60 minutes of solid hockey. That’s why they can’t win games.

Tonite they should’ve lost 72-5 but Kiprusoff made dazzling save after dazzling save. 30 of San Jose’s 35 shots were in the first two periods.

Calgary’s special teams could’ve made a difference but half the time they were caught like a deer in the headlights. Seven PP and only one goal on a 5 v 3 no less.

The Flames have done enough good things for fans to kind of smile….but let’s face it, only Edmonton is worse than Calgary right now, and that’s just pathetic. Maybe the team will decide to pull their sad state together, earn their million dollar pay cheques, and win their next game at home v Phoenix.
