Yesterday the club announced the removal of the ‘interim’ from Jay Feaster’s title. He will proceed as the undisputed GM for the team this coming year. Jury is out on his effectiveness. He was left an utter mess in payroll by his predecessor Darryl ‘Stajan was a good idea’ Sutter. Feaster is a better face for the media and likely a more astute business man. He’s not particularly gifted in scouting but that will be left to player personnel people such as Craig Conroy who will re-assume his role his year as assistant to the GM.
Feaster has won before, but his track record is still unproven. If he can somehow get out of the mess he has now with payroll, sign Tanguay, and make the playoffs, then we can expect him back next year when the re-building actually starts. Until then hang on to your hats.
The club also exercised their option on Jim Playfair who will have head coaching duties for the AHL Abbotsford Heat this coming season. He was left with a relatively rookie squad that almost made it to the playoffs last season.
Good to hear about Feaster’s appointment as GM for the Calgary Flames and even without a proven record his profile and personality speak for themselves. The Flames certainly need Tanguay’s contribution and the upcoming year should hopefully be the one that fans are counting for…. A huge welcome note to Craig Conroy
