The last 24 hours has been a bit of whirlwind, all of which hasn’t really left the Flames any better off. First, Leland Irving demoted to the farm club never to return (we hope). Next up, a surprising move to all, Blair Jones off to the minors. The second natural NHL center (the other being the mighty Matt Stajan) gone.
Me thinks there was a plan to have him claimed (perhaps on reentry waivers?) But needless to say the Flames sit at 49 contracts with a bunch of spare parts.
Somehow the team actually cobbled together a lineup for their brief 2 game road swing. The last time Calgary played Dallas it was a blowout of sorts–7-4 for Calgary. This time around you knew Dallas would bring a better game.
Calgary’s PP continues to sit atop the league and it didn’t disappoint in the first period when Mike Cammelleri scored his 4th goal in two games vs Dallas. Jarome Iginla, completely absent from this game (yet again) drew the penalty.
Apart from 59 seconds in the second period, Calgary seemed to play with a bit more purpose. Even with Comeau starting the game on the ‘3rd line’ with Igilna and Glencross, there was some momentum that started to build.
Eventually Hartley figured out the lines (that seems obvious to everyone but him) in the third period. Down 3-1 Calgary went on to score 3 unanswered goals starting with the newly minted Czech line with Horak in the middle and Cervenka and Hudler on the wings. Horak scored his first of the season. later Matt ‘the Rajin’ Stajan scored his first. Not to be outdone, the game winning goal was potted by none other Mr Steve Begin, getting back into the lineup in place of Blair Jones.
In net Joey MacDonald, he made some key stops but it’s still clear there ar question marks in goal for the Flames. Expect Danny Taylor to play against his old club from way back tomorrow vs. LA.
Fabulous come-back win for the Calgary Flames and a great team effort. Yes, it had been scary initiall; but the resilience was discernable in the third. Good show, boys and thanks for taking the shine out the Stars tonight….Albertans sure have style!!!! Go Flames Go. Keep the flame burning….
