The Flames were firing on all cylinders on Thursday, and did the complete opposite on Saturday.

Game 2 at home, and faced with an Avalanche top line that was essentially double shifted the entire game, couldn’t get things moving for the life of them.

Special teams dead. Top line absent. TJ Brodie demoted. Short handed goal against.

The performers were Mike Smith, which is great to see. Sam Bennett with a solid performance and two points. And the 4th line, who didn’t get much ice because of special team play.

Game 3 and 4 in Colorado now with the series tied.

Calgary won’t be able to match up as well, but the Backlund line was dominated. Overall the team must find another gear. It’s that time of year where you don’t think something special needs to be said to get the players motivated. But their on-ice performance was not good.

But you’re not top in the Western Conference for nothing. The team is going to respond.

Plus, nobody had the Flames sweeping. Flames in 6 still in the plans.
