Back in the win column for the Calgary Flames after taking a beating in a 3 game road swing through the Southern US. Las Vegas featured a blowout, San Jose another loss. The team was floundering, looking for some sense of effort and rhythm. It doesn’t help that the bottom 6 forwards are still struggling to put up any points. Having a dysfunctional bottom six won’t help you win games let alone Championships.
Against the Flyers, Big Save Dave was back into form after his blowout Vegas game. His play bodes well for the Flames, they just need to give him proper rest.
On offence, Frolik and Mangiapane tallied. The secondary scoring we’re looking for. But it still doesn’t answer questions for lines 3 and 4 that still look largely lost on the ice. Those bottom lines need to find their game or by the end of October I would assume changes are coming.
That goes for Bennett, Jankowski, and whomever else is on the wing for that 4th line.
There won’t be a lot of practice time with all the games, but the players need to figure out how to make things work if the Flames have a chance to string together a few wins.
Detroit in town Thursday.
